How to Understand Accounting?

Everyday students walk into my office wondering what can they do to understand the material better. They wonder why Accounting isn’t like any other class where they can memorize, regurgitate, and dump the material at the end of a testing block.

The confused look in their faces makes me wonder why can’t they learn this material and what am I doing wrong as a teacher when it comes to journal entries and the debits and credits.

I know I am biased in saying this, but Accounting is a different type of beast when it comes to learning and understanding the material.
